Catawba Valley Medical Center Announces Visitor Restrictions Lifted
Beginning Monday, December 21, 2009, Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) will lift visitor restrictions set in place in early October for children under the age of 18. The medical center is lifting the restrictions because fewer people with flu-like symptoms are being seen in the Emergency Department and by Catawba Valley Medical Group primary care practices. According to state officials, the H1N1 flu is not as widespread as previously experienced.
CVMC continues to urge anyone with flu-like symptoms such as cough, sore throat, or fever to refrain from visiting inpatients. CVMC will continue to monitor the flu situation and should conditions warrant, future restrictions may be put in place again.

Catawba Valley Medical Center has been providing Lifeline service to the Catawba Valley area for more than 26 years. Each holiday season, area residents find that while the holidays are a festive time of year, it can also be a stressful time when their senior loved ones could use additional support when family is not always nearby. The gift of Lifeline service offers lasting value, safety and security for homebound seniors and their caregivers.
Lifeline is a simple wireless device worn as a pendant or a wristband that allows the wearer to summon help at the push of a button, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In the case of an emergency such as a fall, the subscriber pushes the button activating the CarePartner Communicator which connects to a trained response associate who quickly assesses the need and dispatches assistance. On average, one of every three adults over age 65 falls each year, making falls the most common cause of death and injury in the home, creating real concern for seniors and their loved ones. The Lifeline service gives elders living alone, their family members and caregivers increased peace of mind at the holidays and all year long.
“We are very proud of the service we provide homebound seniors because it helps them continue living in the homes they love,” said Carol Robinson, CVMC Lifeline program coordinator. “We are especially driven during this holiday season to help more at-risk elders remain independent. In fact, our Lifeline program is offering free installation (a $45 value) during the holiday season. This time of year should be a time for celebration, not worry.”
For more information on Lifeline, call Ms. Robinson at 828-485-2696.
