General Programs for Weight Management

According to the American Heart Association, nearly 135 million adults are overweight or obese – and an estimated 300,000 die each year of related causes. But being overweight is also a major risk factor for several other health problems, including heart disease, stroke, hypertension, sleep apnea, elevated blood lipids and Type 2 diabetes.

At Catawba Valley Medical Center, we are committed to helping prevent weight issues from becoming medical problems. We offer a comprehensive array of programs to help not only individuals lose weight, but also maintain a healthy weight for a lifetime.

General Programs
Most non-surgical weight loss programs are based on a combination of diet/behavior modification and regular exercise. At Catawba Valley Medical Center, we cover all the bases with our L.E.A.R.N. program and our Fitness Plus Center.

  • L.E.A.R.N.
This ten-week program offers classes that focus on helping individuals make positive changes in Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitude, Relationships and Nutrition – changes that help them achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Classes are taught in a group setting by a registered dietitian and CVMC Fitness Center staff members. L.E.A.R.N. is designed to help develop a balanced diet, improve eating habits, start an enjoyable exercise program and achieve permanent weight loss. Along with instruction, participants receive a confidential body fat assessment and a three-month membership at CVMC’s Fitness Plus Center with an opportunity for a special rate to join. Classes are conducted on the CVMC campus. For more information about L.E.A.R.N., please call Lynn Geissele, Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist, at 828/326-2905.
  • Fitness Plus Center
